Music Lessons
Take The Stage is our signature program for kids ages 10 and up. It combines individual music lessons with a group class focused on performance practice, an introduction to the recording studio, and a live stage concert with a pro band. It’s the complete journey from practice room to spotlight.
Here’s how it works. Each semester starts with weekly music lessons where you build your skills on your instrument, working one on one with an instructor who tailors everything to your goals and the music you love. Then you join a group class where you rehearse with other musicians, practice performing together, and get ready for the big moment. At the end of the semester, you get an introduction to the recording studio, laying down your song with a professional band. Finally, you take the stage for a live concert, performing your song in front of an audience with a pro band backing you up.
For those who want to take their group class experience to the next level, Take The Stage often leads into our Small Ensemble program. It’s a natural next step for musicians who want to keep collaborating, deepen their skills, and continue making music together in a weekly band setting.
It’s the most exciting way to grow as a musician, and it’s open to students ages 10 and up.
Your Take The Stage journey starts with music lessons. You’ll work one on one with a professional instructor who is also an actively performing musician in the North Vancouver community. Lessons are tailored to your goals, your favourite songs, and your learning style, so you’re always building the skills that matter most to you.
We teach a wide range of instruments including:
Whether you’re a beginner picking up an instrument for the first time or an experienced player looking to level up, your lessons will prepare you for the group rehearsal, the recording studio, and the live stage.
Group Class
At CoJa Music Academy, our Take the Stage program offers engaging group music classes where young musicians learn the essentials of live performance. Building on our First Steps in Music program, these classes prepare students for the next level, focusing on practical skills that bring confidence and professionalism to the stage.
During each Take the Stage session, students:
- Rehearse full songs with a band of their peers, building teamwork and musical cohesion.
- Practice speaking into the microphone, learning how to address and engage with an audience.
- Gain hands-on experience with setting up and managing equipment, empowering them to feel at home on any stage.
- Receive personalized feedback from experienced instructors, focusing on refining their performance skills.
This program transforms private music lessons into live performance experiences, helping students develop the stage presence and skills needed for our exciting year-end concert. At CoJa Music Academy, our mission is to inspire young musicians through supportive, hands-on learning that makes music exciting, accessible, and deeply rewarding!
Recording studio
Our Take the Stage program at CoJa Music Academy offers students the unique opportunity to step into a real recording studio and record themselves playing, which is not only incredibly fun but also instructional. Listening to their recordings helps students hear how they truly sound, allowing them to identify areas for improvement and become more skilled performers.
Each semester, we invite the entire group class to join in the studio, where they listen to each other’s recordings and cheer each other on. This shared experience builds camaraderie and mutual support among young musicians, culminating in a final recording of their group song. Through Take the Stage, students gain both solo and group performance insights, helping them grow into confident, well-rounded musicians ready to take the spotlight!
The program is open to students turning 10 and up. Where possible, we try to match students by age to keep the group dynamic running smoothly.
Take The Stage runs by semester. Each semester includes weekly individual lessons, group classes, a recording studio session, and a live concert.
Yes. Your lessons are built around your goals and the music you love. You’ll work with your instructor to choose the song you’ll prepare for the recording and concert.
The group chooses the song together. And if it’s not a song that you love, it’s a great opportunity to learn and discover some new types of music.
The group class is about practicing your performance piece and then working together to prepare a group song for the final concert.
It’s an introduction to the recording studio experience. You’ll record your song with a professional band backing you, giving you a taste of what it’s like to be a recording artist.
