Voice Lessons In North Vancvouer

Voice Lessons for kids, teens, and adults

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of opening your mouth and letting a song out. Whether you’re singing along to your favourite pop hit, harmonizing in a choir, or stepping up to a microphone for the first time, your voice is the most personal instrument you’ll ever play. When you’re ready to take it further, our Take The Stage program moves you from the practice room into a real recording studio and onto a live stage.

who and what we teach

At COJA Music Academy, we teach voice students ages 4 and up — from little ones discovering their singing voice to adults who want to build confidence, improve technique, or finally perform the songs they love. We cover a wide range of styles including Pop, Rock, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and more. Whatever gets you excited to sing, we’ll build your lessons around it.

Our instructors are professionally trained, performing musicians actively gigging in the North Vancouver community. So you’re learning from someone who’s actually out there using their voice on real stages — not just teaching from a book.

As you progress, you’ll build a strong foundation in:

  • Breath support and control — the foundation of great singing
  • Pitch and ear training — singing in tune and hearing the music
  • Vocal technique and range — expanding your comfort zone safely
  • Style and expression — finding your unique voice
  • Stage presence and performance skills — owning the room when you sing

Your voice is the most personal instrument you’ll ever play — and there’s nothing quite like the feeling of singing a song that means something to you. Whether you’re harmonizing with a friend, stepping up to a microphone for the first time, or writing your own lyrics, we’ll help you find the confidence and technique to let it out. When you’re ready to take it further, our Take The Stage program moves you from the practice room into a real recording studio and onto a live stage.

Our Teaching Philosophy & What Makes Us Different?

We believe in a student-led approach. That means we start with what you love, your favourite songs, the artists you admire, your musical goals, and build the right technical and vocal foundation around it. Whether you want to belt pop, refine your jazz tone, or write your own songs, we tailor every lesson to your learning style and pace.

We encourage our students to experiment, try new things, and explore all the different ways music can be part of their lives. There’s no one right way to sing, and we think that’s a good thing.

What makes us special is our people. Every instructor at COJA is a professionally trained, performing musician who’s actively gigging and making music in the North Vancouver community. We’re not just teachers who happen to sing, we’re musicians who happen to love teaching. That real-world experience comes through in every lesson, whether we’re working on breath control or talking about what it’s like to perform on a real stage.

And because we’re strong across so many styles, we can adapt easily to whatever direction you want to take. Love pop? Let’s work on that. Obsessed with musical theatre? Let’s dive in. Want to work on your own songs? Even better.

Most importantly, we encourage our students to make music with others. Whether it’s jamming with a friend, joining our Community Choir, or stepping into the Take The Stage program, we believe the best growth happens in community.

faq

We welcome students ages 4 and up, as long as they’re able to focus for short periods. For younger singers, we focus on fun, confidence-building, and finding their natural voice.

Just your voice! A quiet space to sing is all you really need.

Yes! We book two paid trial lessons to make sure the student and teacher are a good match. If everything’s going well, we sign up for the term of weekly lessons. Just let us know what days and times work best for you.

It depends on age and goals:

  • 30 minutes — recommended for ages 4 to 10
  • 45 minutes — recommended for ages 10 and up
  • 60 minutes — great for students who want to dive deeper into multiple subjects

We recommend weekly lessons to build consistent progress and momentum.
